  • Keeping active before, during and after cancer treatment is important for your health and wellbeing.

    You might feel apprehensive about starting an exercise routine, especially if you feel tired or concerned about what is the right activity to do.

    Our six week BOOST Fundamentals Course is designed to support you day by day, step by step and to take the uncertainty out of what to do next. and is a great place to start!

    It's important to talk to your treatment team and get medical clearance before starting any new exercise routines.

  • We provide "low to moderate" (REVIVE) OR "Moderate to high" (C25) intensity level classes.

    If you begin with our BOOST Fundamentals class…then you’ll get a better idea after watching Module 1.1 where we refer to the Rate of Perceived Exertion Scale (RPE Scale).

    How to Use RPE: The RPE measures your exertion or effort on a scale from 0 to 10. For example, sitting quietly in a chair may have a rating of 0. Waving your arms while sitting might increase the exertion rating to 0.5 and you may give walking at a moderate pace a rating of 3.

    Don’t base your rating on pace or speed. Base it on how hard you feel like you’re working.

    During exercise... you should be aiming to work at a MODERATE intensity level, ‘4-6 RPE’ x30mins x3 per week.

    If you haven't exercised for a while, we would recommend you begin with the low to moderate intensity exercise classes (REVIVE). There are examples of each class in our “FITNESS” section you could try first as well.

    Monitor how you feel during our classes. If you feel you are breathing heavily but can hold a conversation doing our low to moderate intensity option, then stick to that.

    If you’re only a 2 or 3 RPE (light activity) when doing our REVIVE class, then go and choose the "Moderate to High" intensity option which will be our C25 classes.

  • In the majority of situations…you will be allowed to exercise!! Even throughout treatments (although sometimes you might have to adapt a little at times).

    There is more and more evidence of the benefits of exercise and most medical teams are recognising the research and supportive of you getting moving!

    The BEST thing to do is get that medical clearance from your medical team or GP before starting and to check if there is anything you need to adjust initially.
